The opening ceremony of the 7th National Farmers’ Sports Meet took place in Nanyang, Henan province, Sunday afternoon.
The showcase is held every four years. Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu attended the opening ceremony. With typical local features including Tai Chi and Kongfu being presented, more than 6,000 people participated in the 75-minute opening ceremony. During the 7-day event, more than 46-hundred farmer athletes, including those from Chinese Taipei will compete in 15 sports.
They will be competing in 198 events. Some of those include traditional events like athletics, basketball, table tennis, and swimming. But there are also less familiar activities like lion and dragon dance. Different from the National Games and Universiade, the farmers’ sports meet is meant to showcase farmers’ special characteristics, focusing more on their life style and work.
