In New York, more than 100 people have been arrested, at a march by Occupy Wall Street protesters, marking the first anniversary of the grass-roots movement.
The streets were filled with the sound of drums and chanting, as demonstrators blocked traffic in Manhattan’s financial district. But the anniversary protests have so far failed to match the scale of last year’s Occupy events, with just a few hundred people attending the march. Protesters gathered across from Zuccotti Park, the site of the Occupy movement’s birth. Anniversary events are planned in more than 30 cities worldwide.
