The International Atomic Energy Agency’s General Conference opened in Vienna on Monday. The issue of Iran’s nuclear program will be a key topic for delegates, alongside the agency’s general activities and budget for next year.
However, in an address to the conference, Iran’s nuclear chief claimed that his country’s national security has been threatened by an intelligence leak at the agency. He said suspected terrorists had attempted to attack the country’s nuclear facilities based on information obtained from the IAEA. The Iranian delegation also alleges that the IAEA has violated its principles, and is being used by some countries to cast aspersions on Iran.
According to the latest IAEA report, Iran is accelerating its nuclear program, and there are long-held suspicions that it’s attempting to produce a nuclear warhead. But Iran insists its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes.
