UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has called on China and Japan to reduce tension and resolve the Diaoyu Island dispute. He made the remarks at a news conference, ahead of next weeks U.N.’s annual General Assembly gathering in New York.
Ban said, "I have been very closely following what’s going on in Asia, Asia region, and particularly what is happening in the relationship between China and Japan over this territorial issue. I’m increasingly troubled by rising tensions in the region over territorial disputes. It’s not for me to take a position on such territorial disputes. I urge all concerned, parties to resolve the dispute peacefully through dialogue."
