International donors have pledged another 1.46 billion US dollars in aid to Yemen to help the poorest Arab country overcome financial challenges. The move comes as Yemen struggles to make the transition to democracy amid mounting humanitarian and security challenges.
The financial pledge was made during a Friends of Yemen meeting on the sidelines of the General Assembly in New York. Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi added words of support to Yemen while addressing the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of the Friends of Yemen at the UN. Yang said the international community should support a peaceful and orderly political transition in Yemen, and help the Middle East country restore its economy and improve security.
