On the final day of active campaigning, Venezuelan opposition candidate, Enrique Capriles, has made his final rally ahead of Sunday’s election.
Capriles accused President Hugo Chavez of focusing on spreading his socialist project around the world, while losing sight of voters’ daily problems, like crime and unemployment. He said Venezuela’s 29 million people have been let down by a government that has squandered record oil revenue.
Capriles has been creeping up in the polls and two surveys give him a slight edge over President Chavez. Many Venezuelans are concerned a close result will be contested by either side and could lead to violence. Opposition activists are also worried the president may refuse to step down if he loses.
