This is the story of a singer who busks on the subways of central China’s Ningxia Hui autonomous region. But there’s something very special that sets him apart from other buskers.
He’s not just a busker, but a good samaritan.
PASSER-BY: The song sounds really good.
Fan: Thanks, it’s my favourite song.
Fan Bo has been busking on the underground for 4 years, but he actually has a daytime job as a driver for a construction company. He’s chosen the underground as a stage for practising his singing, and it means he doesn’t disturb his family and the neighbours.
Fan Bo said, "Many people started giving me money, I had to keep telling them that i wasn’t singing for money."
But a suggestion from a friend gave him an idea.
"A friend told me that i could use the money to help others."
A newspaper article about a girl who was forced to give up her studies because of a brain tumor, caught his attention 2 years ago. Her family couldn’t afford the medical treatment.
"She got a high score in the college entrance exam, in the same year my son sat his exams."
Fan started devoting more time to his singing, and sent the money he’d collected to the news agency every quarter.
Ji Zheng, Journalist, Ningxia Daily Newspaper Group, said, "He’s been here many times, and has donated nearly 6,000 yuan. He’s also helped us raise over 10,000 yuan at other events."
Fan finally met the girl in the newspaper article this year, when he
heard that her health was worsening. The meeting was a long-awaited union.
